Hi Everyone,

I'm fairly new to 3d max but I really want to try and create this effect in 3D: [Link to www.positivehype.com] (or see image attached)

I've tried chrome/glass tutorials online where I've played around with reflection and refraction maps but I can't seem to get the right kind of effect on a black background. Also I've been using either an omni light or a spot light, is this right? I'm using mental ray.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Jo

This looks like it has had a LOT of post work done in photoshop.

I would try two things:

1. Get vRay and use a vRay material I think the standard settings are fairly shiny if you stick white in the reflect colour.

2. Stick a Falloff map in the Reflection Slot, render against a white background, then composite onto a black one.

And don't bother with any refraction.

Or if you really want to cheat, photoshop in the reflections after. Like I think this person did.
