im having an issue with garment maker..
i keep getting "more than 2 splines meet at a point" when i try to add the garment modifier to 4 rectangles that are attached as a group...
when i try to apply it to them separately it works fine for two of them and the other two just become a line or something..
what could be causing this problem?

Press the "Print Scrn" key on your keyboard (should be above Home, Insert etc. Then paste into an image program like photoshop or even mspaint and save. Then upload it here. Instructions to upload pics are in the FAQ.

well you can see what im trying to do is actually kinda wrap ythis structure that i have there .. having all four of the sides covered and the top and bottom .. from what i understand i need to apply garment to all of them and then sew them up together.. and give the ones on the sides a little bend..
maybe theres a problem with my 3ds? cause if i leave it with that error it crashes 3ds .. i have 3ds 2008

I can see what you're trying to do, but I'm not sure why it's not working. Cloth isn't something I've worked on much, sorry.

Is there another way you can do this? A way to possibly "fake" it?

maybe this can help you guys help figure out whats wrong.. i started a new project.. created two rectangles.. and every step along the way i applied to garment maker to see if it works.. after i initially created them, after i converted them to editable splines, after i broke the vertices so itll maintain the square shape, and then once i attached them to one another it says "splines form overlapping loop"..
so i guess the problem is when i attach them.. is there a particular way i should attach them?.. i need to attach them cause i need to create seams between them..

also you can see something weird in these pictures.. this is after i attached them and then detached them... when i apply the garment on the vertical rectangle it just flattens out to a line... it works fine on the one thats horizontal... does anybody know what is causing this... and if not where to turn to for guidance ? smile.gif
thaks

That seems odd, not sure why it's doing that.

How are you attaching the objects? Are you just pressing the attach button? Because you need to make sure all your vertices are welded together. Check out the images below.

1: 2 separate vertices
2: Click the Fuse button and the vertices are moved to the same point. Note that there are still 2 vertices selected though.
3: Click the Weld button, only 1 vertex remains.

This may eliminate some of your problems. If not, it's good to know anyway.

but thats not the case.. i make a rectangle spline so its closed.. and ythere is only one vertex in each corner...
all i do now is make two rectangles.. attach them.. and apply garment.. still doesnt work.. says they form overlapping loops......

this is kinda driving me crazy... please help smile.gif

Yeh, but when you attach the rectangles to eachother do you use the method I outlined above? Or are they not supposed to be touching eachother?

i just press the attach button and attach them so theyll be one group.. they dont have to be touching eachother.. i do that layter once i put the garment maker and create seams

Did you try Steves method of joining the rectangles together?

Sorry just to be clear I meant, when you join all of the rectangles together, not just when you join the sides to form one rectangle.

well first of all the rectangles dont have to be physically attached (like touching each other) for garment maker to work.. they just need to be part of the same group.. (so when i click one of the rectangles they are all selected)..
but for arguments sake i tried after attaching the four rectangles (with the attach button) to fuse the vertexes together so they are all connected but when i try to weld the two vertexes that are formed after i fuse them it doesnt do anything.. it remains 2 vertexes..

so this is really driving me crazy smile.gif
i have to find a sollution

the rectangles dont have to be (and in my case arent supposed to) be connected, physically touching each other for the garment maker to work properly.. but for arguemnts sake i tried to fuse the vertices together and then weld them (after the four rectangles were already attached as a group called "mesh"wink.gif but the weld didnt do anything.. they remained two vertices in each corner as you can see in the pictures..
heh this is driving me crazy and im pretty frustrated, have to find a solution so if you dont know how to fix this (which i hope you do smile.gif ) can anyone point me to another forum maybe because i couldnt find another one and get a response from anyone...
anyways thanks for the attempted help and input smile.gif its very appreciated..

ok ive managed to work it out grin.gif

thanks for all the input guys.. helped me realize what i was doing wrong...
i have one more question.. now i need to find a texture for the cloth i just made.. its supposed to be this mesh, its used against pesticides and such in the garden.. its a very thick net.. i was wondering if anyone can point me to where i can find textures of this kind, or any help at all regarding textures since ive never worked with textures smile.gif
again, thanks

Can you draw a black and white map in photoshop of the pattern you want the net to be, and then apply it to the transparency slot?

hmm im sorta new at all of this so im afraid i dont really understand what you want me to do..
but yes that is exactly the texture i need for the net... exactly smile.gif

I went and took some closeups of the net that you could use, although it might be better to recreate it in photoshop. Actually it wont take me long, I'll try to make a tiling alpha map for you.

Essentially what you want to do is use an alpha map to show what parts of the surface are to be visible/transparent.

white=visible
black=transparent

So you would create a material with a white diffuse colour (or whatever colour you want the net to be) and then put the alpha map in the Opacity slot.

I will try to create one for you and then take some screenshots for you of how to apply it. Check back in a bit.

Not sure if this would work, but if your mesh is high res enough, you could just add a wireframe material to it. It may look crap, but it's worth a try.

Heres an alpha map you can use. I just drew it in photoshop.

Set your diffuse colour to white.

Open the Maps rollout, and click the opacity slot, choose BITMAP as the type, and then choose this image.

Adjust the tiling until the size is right. It should tile fairly well, the edges are pretty equal.

wow thanks alot for the help smile.gif .. just one thing though.. its needs to be very dense the netting.. its used to keep pesticides and very small insects out.. like almost microscopic .. so it needs to be very very dense
hmm i dont know why my replies arent showing up on my computer.. so ill add the image here..
btw i have one more question.. u can see in the image that the mesh isnt really connected to the top of the object, i was wondering how do i make it "stick" to it so it will be hung on it pretty much... i tried simnode, that just makes it stay but it doesnt make it come together with the object..

Then you might want to try a photographic texture and just turn the opacity down slightly.

Also, shakazulu89 can you describe what you did to fix your original problem, just on the off chance that down the track someone else has the same problem and needs some help.

well i think the problem was when i created the rectangles i created them in their positions around the object, but when i just created them lined up next to eachother in the top viewport and then applied garment maker it worked, then i moved the panels into position..
i guess it was obvious thats what i needed to do.. but oh well smile.gif

Turn the tiling in the bitmap right up so that it makes the mesh finer and more dense, I only rendered it that big to show you.

oh ok.. did that looks pretty good now i think .. just need to fit it around the object better..
tell me what you think:

Can't you just moved the verts and make them fixed? Haven't used cloth for a while but I seem to remember being able to fix selected vertices.
