There are plenty of tutorials out therre on the web that'll get you started. What is your main interest eg. modelling/texturing/lighting etc?

right now. i'm focusing on learning the basics of 3ds max by watching the Getting Started tutorials on this site [Link to forums.ego-farms.com]

and then i hope to move onto learning modeling . then when i get that done, learn texturing, then lighting, then i hope to move onto animation one day.

your not in high school yet? hell you have all the time in the world to learn this stuff. As for animation the best book around is the animators survival kit.
