I am apiring 3d artist. Just bought a copy of 3d max to do a very ambitious (crazy) project: to make my own 3D animated feature movie. I start as soon as I learn how to model a cat, I'll update you on my progress. (do you have a model of a cat by any chance to lend me?)

Welcome to the site smile.gif

That is a very ambitious project. You have a lot to learn before you will be able to create an animated feature. In terms of a cat model I think your best bet would be to check out turbosquid.com it is a website that sells models. However they have some free ones so you might get lucky smile.gif

Keep us updated on your project and good luck.

Welcome, I hope we can all help you out in your project. If theres anything you need to know please ask us.

As jamie said, turbosquid has a decent library, although you may need to get the files converted sometimes.

Making an animated feature movie is a good long term goal, but you might want to start with a smaller goal to start off with. Animated feature movies require hundreds of people for years at a time and it is a huge task to take on for even a group of dedicated people. Have you got a story or a script or anything?

Welcome to the forum by the way.

I have to agree with Steve here. We are not trying to stifle your dreams it is just we have the experience to know how hard a project like this can be.

Thanks guys for you kind words of encouragement and back to reality comments,

After finishing my script my immediate goal is to make it into the movie. I know that I can’t do it all on my own and that would need to get involved some people at some point to help me out. I have a quote from a studio that would produce film sequences for $60 per second - rendered and animated. That means that my 110 minutes feature film would cost me around $400 000 which is not that bad. However, they didn’t tell me how long it would take or how many people would work on the project.

If you have money to spend that is a different story. I'm sure you can put together a team of 3d artists in no time.

$400,000 is pretty cheap. Have you seen any of this studio's work?
