Hi everyone
This is Mohammed from Jordan.
I just began to crawl in 3ds max 2009.
I have some questions:
1. There are many books for older versions than 2009. Can I use them with 2009?
2. If I wanted to break into the world of game design and development, should I master 3dsmax?
3. I know about 3dsmax many years ago but I didn't use it all. What brings me back is that I met a professional in entertainment design. He was using Maya. I asked him: How did you learn Maya? He answered: I bought all books about Maya, read them, and experiencing what he studied until I become a professional. I asked him: Did you take any courses about Maya? He answered: No, I didn't but there are three things you have to do to master any 3D modeling tool. I asked him: What are they? He said: You must have an open and creative mind that can read and understand, then a good computer, and then don't give up if you failed in some parts.
What do you think? Is he right? I say some of his works and they were something exceptional. Can I do the same thing with 3dsmax? The problem is that there are hundreds of books available. What do you suggest?

Yes. 3dsmax developers just buy as many 3rd party pluggins as possible during the year, and call it a new version. Sometimes they mess with the UI to annoy you, but it's easy to change it back.
2. If I wanted to break into the world of game design and development, should I master 3dsmax?
You mean i need to master 3dsmax before someone will hire me? No wonder i'm jobless!
3. [snip] There are hundreds of books available. What do you suggest?
"3dsmax bible xxxx"
"Deconstructing the Elements with 3ds Max"
I use maya tutorial info as well, in some cases. The programs are so similar they should sue each other if they weren't already owned by the same company... The internet is my main source of 3dsmax related info.
