Hey all

I'm a Danish girl starting to work with 3ds Max. It's a lot of fun so far and a whole new challenge. So far, I've been a 2d artist, working in both traditional and digital mediums - check out my portfolio here: [Link to www.carlinart.net.] Then I realized how practical it can be to use 3d for backgrounds and rendering scenes, and maybe just use Photoshop for drawing people. So now I've got a little 3d project going for a commission from a chess author, and I intend to do this room with a table and a chessboard on it, and the commissioner is shaking hands with a player above it. So far what I've got is this:

I intend to make all the chess pieces later, but it's important that I figure out what to do for floor and background. I've been browsing the galleries of some of you guys, and the stuff you make is stunning! If anyone has an idea for how to render a room around my chess table, I'd be happy. Otherwise, I look forward to spending some time here, hopefully getting my questions answered and getting better at this trixy 3d stuff.

Welcome to the site, it is good to have some more 2d artists on board. We are doing a massive update to the site soon and it will encompass more 2d work as well as serveral other mediums. Im sure the guys will be able to help you out with a simple room render. Hope you enjoy the site

Thanks to both of you. It's good to hear that my site has become userfriendly, that means it has come a long way, LOL.. a year back, this definitely wasn't the kind of feedback I was getting, but I recently redesigned it and am very satisfied with the navigation etc now, it's easy as it should be.

I can't wait to work out my chess commission with help from people here, I've had this commission for 5 months but have been unable to finish it because I was lacking inspiration. 3d Max then came along, providing the inspiration I needed - now I just need to learn how to use it!

Welcome to the forum! Im sure we can help you out! Ill check out your Post on the modeling around the chess... and see if I can help out some. But Im pretty sure all the ppl here are going to pitch in some good ideas 4 you! Good luck and hope to see some of your work in 3d soon, btw check out your portfolio online, Looks awsome! Keep it up, 2D will never go out of style.

Welcome Carina, always good to have solid 2d skills behind your 3d as composition, sense of lighting, and also being able to paint textures are all very important to 3d.
