Hello everybody!
I just registered a few minutes ago so I thought I'd say hi
- just a note - I enjoy writing introductory posts haha
When I was in school, I became very interested in 3D art as a device for realizing some of the images I had in my head, but unfortunately, due to the lack of availability of applications and time to learn them, I veered away from that world before I had even begun
A few years later, setting on a path with my love for biology, I did a degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology. During the time of that degree, I came to the realization that my methods for learning were different from some of the other students. I much preferred learning from images rather than text. I would draw large combinatorial diagrams of biological systems, memorize them and use them as a reference in my head for the exams. Suffice it to say, I was disappointed in the lack of availability of image-based learning tools.
That degree was very laboratory oriented and I found out, that I really did not just want to sit in a lab all my life, repeating the same tasks over and over. Throughout the course, I had used a lot of Photoshop for making posters, images for articles and presentations, and had also made images for people I knew online - digital media was very much a personal interest for me. Towards the end of the degree, I decided to use the work I had done and apply for a foundation degree course in Digital Design, in an effort to try and bridge the cap between the two worlds which I love so much.
During the Digital Design course, I learned how to use several new programs - InDesign, Flash, After Effects, Premiere etc etc - and at one point, we were offered a documentary project. I saw an opportunity to integrate some 3D and I thought I would use this as an excuse to learn 3D Studio Max. This process, is very much still ongoing! Towards the end of the Digital Design course, I was offered a place to do a single extra year and get a degree in Graphic Communication. I took this opportunity and this is where I am now - many years late but still just as passionate
Hopefully, I'll make some new friends here and perhaps also get to pick a few brains
(also, just a note, I'm always looking for good 3Dsm tutorials! especially for making sunlight, trees and grass etc, so if you think you know any good ones, you can throw them at me at any time and I would be so so so grateful

We are a very friendly community, no trolls and no flame wars here. Sunlight is pretty easy to achieve in Vray. I used a directional light for the sun and then some GI for diffuse light. Trees usually require a plug in such as tree storm and grass can be created using the hair and fur plug in.
Welcome to the front
P.S make a post in the help and advice section and people will help you out
