I've been using 3ds Max since about version 4 or so. No real training, not much time on it, but I love it. I usually only do tutorials just because of the learning curve. I'm about at intermediate levels for the tutorials, but I still like the n00bie ones. I'm a big CorelDRAW fan been using that around version 5 or 6. I wish I could combine the two, CorelDRAW keyboard commands suck compared to 3ds. Well other than that I will be here to idle, I am an expert at it! hehe

Yeah the top of the table looks like doodie when close up or at a different angle, somehow it got all wavey and rippled. Not sure how it happened. This is modeled after my "Real" kitchen table I'll post pics.

Oh another quick thing, I only use the vanilla version of 3dsMax 9, no plug-ins, no add-ons, they are just too darned expensive!

impressive! One thing, if you want to make it more like the one in real life, just add a Planar UVW map to the top.. that would make the texture flat.. but, I like your render better than the actual real table, hahahaha!

The model is very similar to the table, Good work
Everything has some beauty but not everyone is able to see it (Confucius)

Great work. yeah I think if the grain was all going in the same direction like the photo it would look a bit too flat, not as realistic, artististic license I say.

Yup plain 'ol Mental Ray. Well with G.I. and some other things too, I did this about 9 months ago so I kinda forgot the actual things I used. Thanks everyone, I'll be posting some stuff in the First ever modeling/rendered area, should be GREAT for a laugh or two! hehe

Thanks Everyone!

So is there a place for everyone to put what type of computer specs/render farm/stuff they are using??

I am using:

Hardware:

CPU: AMD 64 FX 5400+ (2.8 Ghz I think)
MEM: 2 GB cheapy RAM
GPU: Nvidia 8600GT (XFX brand)
OS: WinXP SP 2 (should be SP3 but I don't know why it won't update)
HD: some SATA's not sure but about 4 I think, about 1.5 TB's of space, all but about 75GB left lol
cheapy monitor
MOUSE: Razer Copperhead
KEYBOARD: Creative Prodikeys (kinda large but I can make MUSIC with it! lol)
Rendering Time: Nintendo DSlite for boredom hehe

I render on 4 computer in the house on semi-big jobs, just this one for smaller renders, blah, blah, blah...

Software:

Browser: FF 3.0.3
Modeler/Renderer: 3dsMax 9/Mental Ray
Photo: Adobe CS3
Image Browser: ACDSee 10

I won't list any games because it'd be a fairly big list. hehe
