Is there a way to tell if an object has non-triangular polygons?

Ideally, the tool would highlight the non-triangular polygons in the object.

I need to know this because the models I'm creating are for a game, and as such all polygons MUST be triangular.

Thanks,

vlad

When you export from 3dsmax, depending on what file type you're exporting, you can choose triangles or quads.

Thanks for the reply.

It is true that one can do that, but that's not what I need. I need to find the non-triangular polygons while in max, before exporting. Among other things, I need to know them in order to apply UVW Unwrap and have proper texture coordinates. Also, I don't want to the program to do the triangulation automatically. I would like to do that myself.

if you use a turn to poly modifier you can limit the polygons to 3 sides. then collapse the mesh. which works for triagulating quad meshes before you export them to a game engine.

I think he needs the opposite effect... the way you can tell if they are all tri or quad polygons, you can go to wireframe mode or into shaded-wireframe mode.. this will outline all of your edges and you should be able to tell if they are tri or quad.

You could do this by pressing F3 and/or F4. these shortcuts will toggle you back and fourth in wire and shade-wire mode while in Max.

good luck!
