Hi guys!

That's my first post...and i hope you will help me 'cause i'm in troubles!

So..for the university i'm doing a cube with words on its faces..(ex. A B C ...etc)..which is very simple
Now, i created each words with PNG extension (for maintaining the trasparency) but when i'm going to "put" this image on the cube face...i got the word with the right color..but instead of the trasparency there's a weird gray color..

Sigh..Someone tell me to use the Opacity Level but i don't know how to use it..I'm a newbie with 3d..

Just to focus on the main points :
- I create the chamfer box > then edit to Editable Poly
- Then press M, and in the texture i select "Bitmap" in the Diffuse Color.. right?
- Then..?

Please help me, Thanks!

I couldn't get this right either.

I think it has something to do with this but I cant get it to work properly:

The alpha source which I have outlined, it should be on Image Alpha.

I tried it both with PNG and with Premultiplied TGA and still get the same result.

I ended up just making separate alpha maps and using them in the Opacity slot.

I would usually do a separate alpha map in the opacity slot as well. Unless you use an image format that supports transparency in your diffuse slot that is.

So... I don't understand what i can do..

If, for example, i put on the diffuse level the path of the image and, in the opacity level i put the path of the same image ( .png ) i got the image working properly but with a small problem..

instead of the background i see through the Word...and the background remains Gray..!!

You need to invert the alpha channel in that case.

What I would do is this:

Save out your texture as a 24-bit bmp (no alpha channel)
Save out your alpha channel as a separate bitmap

Load your texture into the diffuse slot
Load the alpha map into the opacity slot

Okay I see. Flash is not really designed for doing this kind of work. You need to use a program that is capable of controlling layers and alpha channels properly to create textures. Many will probably tell you photoshop is the best for this.

If you *have* to use flash, a way of doing it would be to save your text image first as a bitmap. Then change it to a white text on black background and save that as your alpha map.

Then use those two images in 3DS max, the colour one for the Diffuse map, and the black and white one for the Opacity map.

I hope that helps you.
