3d max thank you for let me in, I'm a newbie in the Max, currently I study and work in Indonesia.I actually came from fine art.I used to paint in water color and pencil.
I have always been so amaze in comic books, virtual reality movies, sci fie and of course back to cartoon again like Disney. It haunted for years how do they make it?
one day I found an interactive cd, a promotion cd about one property in my yard and it amazed me even more coz the actual property was under construction but they make it like it was there already!!
I ask few friends and since there wasn't any understand, so I went to ask my old friend in Canada,he said it was make by 3D Max! I said what is that?I mean everybody in Indonesia used to microsoft Visio, even if they're not,at least many have ssen it and we all know the look of the result in 2D like visio.but this is something new even the name of 3D Max is not a common.
There I knew what exactly I could make a living if I just could to operate the Max along with my skill in drawing.But...there is a BUT...as soon as I enter the course, I realize time has change as well as the fiture and the usage of Max today.kinna bit confusing to understand all of the buttons and the usage of it.
So please any body willing to mentor me out, please help me out with the tutorials and we can make mutual benefit...
Cheers...

The learning process in Max is slow, so for the moment don´t try to understand all the buttons, just read the user reference and learn the main functions of the program, but don´t be worried, i know that the user interface is a little scary, but you´ll see is piece of cake.

Thank's Dragon, I guess I should face the reality of it,yes it is so slow.It is like drawing for the first time, cooking for the first time too,I mean to blend everything and find the 'feeling' of it is indeed difficult. But for you how long does it takes to make it?At least until you can meet the standard of the ready use visual artist?

Its okay to feel a little intimidated by max in the beginning. It really puts all of its functions right in your face in the main interface, most of the stuff you will never use, or it will be months and months before you do.

In the help files, it has a set of tutorials that guide you through the basic processes. If you stick with these and just concentrate on the functions and buttons explained as you go you will quickly get the hang of it.

Thank you for the opportunity here.I will remember your advice and if there is any problem come up I'll share with you.So far I am still alright with the learning process, and you are right about the intimidation.I got it a little...I will make through the storm though.

As some have already mentioned, the max reference files are a great learning resource, as are the people on this forum. Modeling is the most elementry form of 3d so I'd suggest you do a search on youtube for some 3d modeling videos to get an idea of the processes used to create 3d objects. And feel free to ask about anything you are unsure about. Also, we'd love to see some of your 2d work, so I encourage you to post some images in the 2d section of the forum.

You can post images in the forums. But you can't post images in your portfolio, until your a member. It takes time before your a member, you basically have to achieve an X amount of points in participation before they give you a member status.
