i love the first and second one jamie.
the first one is very dreamlike, and i like how the light blurs into the red leaves, and somehow becomes a part of them.
the second one i like the focus job, and what you've chosen to focus on.
i'm not a photographer either so i can't give you professional crits, but on a purely aesthetic basis, those were the two i'd pick.

The snowy road is definately the stand out shot. Your spot on with that one.

Im not entirely sure with the others. I think maybe you need some more focus on whats really special about the leaves and the moss that makes you want to photograph them. Get obsessed and find hundreds of diferent ways of looking at it.

Yea I just like color. Im wierd that way. Some of my fav images are the NIN album art work for the fragile. Out of focus shots that have awesome color and contrast. Im a bit wierd that way.

Your first shot is way 2 blown out, I have no idea where your point of focus is. The colours are really nice and vibrant in the shot, I can see why you wanted to photograph it, but it was always going to be a tough shot by the looks.

The 2nd show I really like, but I would of opened up my apature some more. It is so close to being such a nice shot, but some of the focal blurring really does detract and throw this image out of whack. so close, so far frown.gif

your 3rd shot is great example of using the rule of 3rds in photography, you do lose a little detail in the bottom left hand corner on your shot in the snow, but im not sure if that is just the size of the image I can see or the exposure settings?? Im guessing the size, so it isnt really anything wrong with the shot smile.gif

the forth shot is really kind of boring, nothing of real interest here.... other than I do kinda ike the little speckle of light that trickles in the fore ground you can see on the leaves. Try taking shots like this from strange places, lay on the ground, stand on something, give the image something interesting by giving it a strange perspective.

Im not really sure what to say about the 5th one...there is something right and good about it, and something wrong aswell... the background I think is really great, the sky an the trees with the little spalsh of colour works well and I really like the way you framed it with the 2 tree trunks...
but the foreground is just all wrong, way to much going on, to many twigs, I would have taken those leaves of the tree, it all detracts from what could have been a really nice image... it is lucky i wasnt taking the shot cause I would have pulled alot of stuff off that tree....

Nature photography is always one of those interesting subject matters if you are really willing to go the extra mile to make them interesting. It is all about showing differnt angles, macro shots, high shots, low shots, putting yourself right up to nature and picking out what is true and remarkable about the space you are in. It is about a good eye with framing and knowing alot about handeling your camera... I think you did well smile.gif I would like to see more of your nature stuff!
It is ok, I wouldn't talk to me either...

Yea when it comes to photography im more focus on shapes and color. I have very little interest in it in the traditional way. I like vivid color and contrast. Subject matter comes. second. I just try to take photos I like to look at. Thanks for the crits.

Well that is the perfect way to go, just photograph the way you like to... that is what I do! Focus on aspects you love and you will find later on everything else falls into place!
natural photography owns for vivid colour!! you can get some really fantasic shots! nature is such a wonderful thing smile.gif

Yea I mean all those shots were just taken with a cheap digital camera. If I had a real cam I would probably give the art more attention.

Yeah I know how that feels, sometimes the camera doesnt let you do what you really want...
but aslong as you can adjust your apature and shutter speeds even having a cheep camera you can get some good shots (the only issue is quality really)
It is ok, I wouldn't talk to me either...

I think I like the first one BECAUSE it's blown out, it is dreamlike. I like the somberness of the snowy road too.

i would go for the last one, i like the focus, it blends nicely with the blurry sky behind the leafs, first one, the flowers is great to, nice vivid colors.
second one, little too focused and blurry, blur messed up the shot, and the road, i'm big fan of B&W photography, but the shot looks to ordinary and common if you know what i mean, maybe different angle or something.
Anyhow they're all much better than i can do, it makes me take my pour digital cam and go out and take few shots, if only i had some spare time.
