Hi,

I have the following problem. I have a couple of dxf files that were automatically created from a game. If I import a single one of those into 3D Studio MAX everything is fine. (I do get an error saying that the textures are missing, but I can simply add the appropriate folder into MAX)
I would love to make screenshots of multiple of those models, but sadly since they have been automatically created they all have the same texture names. (Like this: TEX0000.bmp, TEX0001.bmp, TEX0002.bmp and so on) Manually renaming all of them and then manually renaming all the textures in the models is just way too much work frown.gif So, is there a way to import / export a model so that the location of the textures is actually saved, too? (Instead of just the name) I also have the problem that all parts of the models have the same name (like regroup01, regroup02, and so on) So when I import them MAX makes me rename them al manually, too. This is not so bad, but if there's a way around this it would be really cool, too!

Anyways, thanks a lot for your time and help!

Not sure man, what kind of software are you using to export the models from the game?

I've had this problem before and never found a way around it. It's not Xwing Alliance and Opt23ds is it?

Yeh, it's annoying I wanted to have a look at some of the game models in max so I converted them all but they all came out with the textures of the first model. How many did you want to get screenshots for?

Well, kinda all of them smile.gif I mean taking screenies of the single crafts is no problem at all. Using MAX 6 it's really easy because if you import the model it automatically uses the path where you imported the model from as the base. Unfortunately it does not safe that information, so once you save it as a scene and then open it again you have to manually change the path. This of course only works for a single model, once you try to merge multiple models this completely fails. (Well, short of rendering the scene over and over again using a different path every time)
So, any great ideas?

Not really no, other than reprograming opt23ds to give the textuers model-specific names, I think it has to be done manually. Can I ask what you're doing that requires screenshots of all the Xwing Alliance craft?

Well, there is hope! I tried contacting the guy who actually wrote opt23ds and he said he would look into it. (Although he has to find the sourcecode first, but at least there's a chance)
As for the why, I want to make new screenshots for all the crafts that have been done for the xwa upgrade project. The ones we have right now are a bit inconsistent in quality and style and I thought to give them a little polish. The screenies for the single crafts are all done, just want to do some comparison shots and stuff like that now.

That's a good idea doing the comparison. And that's good news about opt23ds. Let us know if you hear anything, it's be good if he could get it working.
