I would express concern that the game may comes off as a City of Heroes knockoff. Obviously there would much content overlap..

the idea does seem cool and is a welcome break from wave after wave of fantasy style MMORPG games but i probably won't play it. Paying monthly to pay a MMORPG's just seems insane and these things can become an addiction. There is a hell of lot more stuff i'd rather be doing than playing one of these games for hours and hours a day.
by the way what does MMORPG stand for exactly?
and it's a story that might bore you, but you don't have to listen, because I always knew it was going to be like that.
no they're never free, you lose hours and hours playing these things. I guess its pretty obvious that I don't like these games.

True. I haven't really had the time to play many games lately, always trying to get on top of the 3d. It never happens, there's always something to do.[Link to www.3dprevis.com]
Ha ha, yeah, I have always tried to avoid them for this reason. They are highly addictive. Also I had a lowsy dial-up connection. Also I don't have time. Also other people playing have a habit of ruining a game for me. I feel better when the only idiocy I have to deal with is that of the AI.

Hmmm. Sounds like no one here has heard of Guild Wars... I've been playing it for the last year or so. The latest version is Nightfall, and ALL versions so far have been subscription free (and it looks like all future versions will be, too). You only have to pay for the game initially (usually the cost of a typical decent game). I think this is what Steve was hinting at in his last post. Having played it a fair bit I can vouch that it is one of the most polished works of gaming art I have seen in a long time. Both RPG and PvP (player vs. player) elements have been thought through extensively. It's certainly worth a look if your wanting a subscription free MMORPG that totally pwns...
... or did you think I was too stupid to know what a yoogoogoly was?
So was it said in the preview of the MARVEL game that it was going to be a subscription service? If so, it's pretty ridiculous.
This model of game finance can't last long. I mean, most developers want their game to be replayable or provide half a lifetimes worth of gameplay. Now if all online games adopt this subscription system, there is no way most consumers who would've bought the game outright would be able to afford all these parallel subscription fees. Say you wanted to play 3 of the latest MMORPGs... That'd cost you about $60 a month just to allow you access to the servers; the time you spend on each surely wouldn't be worth the cost.
Since most people don't have the time to spend on a few games at once, the only way this could pan out is if people subscribe for 1 game at a time, ditching yesterday's popular MMORPG for today's; what a ridiculous sales model. Boo! Hiss!

Hey yeah... These are the kind of discussions that would be uber-wikid on the proposed gaming forum! Is this still going ahead?

Oh yeah! Anyone in Adelaide wanting a really cheap copy of Guildwars: Factions (the second to last one, still wikid)? You can get it from EB games on Rundle Mall in their 2 for $50 deal. They have HEAPS of copies still left. Factions has a nice RPG element with a good story etc. but it will also let you play against other players on the battle isles with other people with any of the three versions (Guildwars, Factions, and Nightfall).
