In Wings there is a function called "Intrude", which is like the opposite of extrude. It hollows out the interior of an object and retains the shape on the inside. (see images)
Nothing that I can see. The only way to do it in max is the negatively extrude the object manually. Or possible the shell tool, but that's a little bit different.[Link to www.3dprevis.com]
If I negative extrude I have to recreate the interior shape myself dont I? By rescaling the face I am extruding as I do it.
Thats a right pain in the arse. I may go back to wings for this and then export to max. Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
Yea you can use inset and extrude or you can make the bottle and then use the shell mod to add the thickness. Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.

Get the bottle, make a clone, but don't move it away from the original model you cloned it from. Bring up the normal modifier and make sure the flip normals box is checked. You should end up with the equivalent effect of the shell modifier, but without the thickness. Now all you gotta do is scale down the clone to reach the desired thickness...
or just use the shell modifier in the first place .
We should write to autodesk man, be like "Hey guys this 2 meg program can do this, you cant. Whats up with that?" Then after crushing their egos they will code it personally for us.Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
They'll just say use the 'shell modifier' . I agree with you about MAX. It's really cool software, but can lack some really important features. I mean that boolean compound needs some serious improvement for starters. Another thing that I'd like is a more advanced measure tool, rather than having to keep using boxes all the time! If there was a way to snap the measure (from the measure tool) from one poly to another to get the distance, that would be really cool. Ah well, it's another thing to stick on my wishlist.
