If not please let me know where, I have been doing anumber of online tutorials on youtube
but one problem none of them list, and its ridiculous: once I have reopened a saved file i cant do ANYTHING to it, none of the tools (pencil, erase etc) do anything but show the hand icon and well, thats pretty useless right?

right click on your image (layers section) and choose duplicate or copy and work on a copy

is your background layer locked in the layers pallete?. if so double click it to convert it to a layer.

I've had this before, I think Edit>Purge>All fixes it.
