Hey all, ive recently gotten into 3dsMax in school as preparation for my college courses. To try to test myself im working on some diferent pictures of already 3d models to see how i can do.

I am having trouble with setting up my 3 view backgrounds however. I have the three separate pictures for each window and i place them in their respective viewports. The issue comes when i am aligning the mesh i have made on each of the viewports.

When i click Lock zoom/pan after positioning the mesh correctly, the image jumps a few inches away from the mesh. I cant see anything in the background window that would cause this...
any help would be GREAT!

My suggestion would be not to put your images in the viewport backgrounds, instead put them on planes. To see what I mean, go to this page:

go to the 3ds max section, then the higher level section and click on the Audi A3 tutorial. Then download the first 2 tutorials (Setting up Blueprints in Photoshop and Putting the blueprints into 3ds Max)

By the way, just a handy hint:

When applying images to planes, get the size dimensions of the image from windows explorer and put those into the length and width fields of the planes that you are applying the images to smile.gif. This will give the planes the correct proportions to display the images undistorted.

Good point. Otherwise use a uvw map modifier and click the bitmap fit button and select the image that you've got in the diffuse channel. And turn off tiling.
