This was supposed to be just a quick scene that I could whip up in a day just to get something out there. I was inspired by Tyson's conceptualise piece which he did in about 4 hours I think. Well this took me a bit longer, I can never seem to do anything quickly in Vue what with the millions of polys and regular crashes. The ship I built earlier was supposed to be in there but every time I went to render it with the Xstream plugin it would crash the program. I wanted something to show for all the hours of work I put in though damnit, so here it is. Just a landscape scene. I'll probably move on to something new now, unless anyone has some awesome ideas of what to do with this one that doesn't require using Xstream.

BTW, this image took about 24 hours to render. And it doesn't even look that much better than some of the lower settings that would take only a few hours.

*EDIT*
Hooray! It works!

I'm planning on getting a copy of vue 6, apparently its far superior with volumetric clouds and atmospheres, sounds good. Whats the xstream plugin do? I saw Ivon using mental ray in max to render a vue scene. I imagine that would be usefull for animating a scene, not to mention the render quality. I found that vue tends to either take frikken ages or it flickers like a christmas tree, I had to set everything to maximum before I got a smooth animation.
maybe your crashes are ram related, that seems to be the most frequent rendering problem for me. Something that is remedied (in max) by vray proxy and or a 64 bit processor and 4 gigs of ram..

Not sure what the problem was. It rendered fine in vue, the only difference was the max scene had the ship in it. Not sure that a few thousand extra polys would make that much of a difference when you consider the amount of polys already there with the ecosystems and all.

The Xstream plugin enables you to view and render Vue scenes in max. It's good for intergrating animated characters and models with complex textures. Unfortunately Mental Ray is the only renderer supported, vray won't work. I've got a few volumetric clouds in my scene, I'd show you but I still can't upload any images. Damn admin! wink.gif

Hey guys sorry for the no-image-postey-thing. Seems to be an issue in the new server. I'll try to take a look at it for you.
