I wanted to see my legnum moving so I whipped up this little scene. I probably spent 30 mins making the terrain and another 40 mins animating the car with the help of the madcar plugin. I'm probably not going to bother doing anymore due to the sheer time it would take to render with all the extra textures and geometry I'd need, not to mention effects such as dust etc. However it is in the WIPs section, so you never know...

Spitfire, you might want to check out the madcar plugin if you're still planning on doing that animation with your Ford and the boat etc. It's pretty easy to use once you pick it up and best of all, it's free.

Anyway, the animation:

Look familiar?

Saw it in the carpark at the auto salon on sunday. First one I've seen.

Sadly no. It's just for fun. Actually things aren't looking to great as far as work goes at the moment. Looks like the Previs is on hold until further notice due to circumstances beyond my control. I'm currently looking for places round Adelaide to send my reel. And as you probably know there's just not a great deal around.

The are quite a few other smaller studios as well. I've tried for the RSP internship a few times without any luck.

Well it's fairly simple to set up, provided you have the correct number of objects (ie attaching mags to tyres so they're one mesh rather than linking them which can cause some odd deformations) it worked first time for me. You basically have to link the car body, the 4 wheels and the 4 brakes to the madcar dummy objects and select a ground object and you're done. Then you can drive around using the keyboard, mouse or joystick/steering wheel. It doesn't handle collisions very well, it only really works if the wheels are touching the ground. You can get airbourne no problems but don't roll it or drive it into solid objects and expect accurate results. It just kinda sinks.

well its not like you just press the "make awesome animation" button with madcar, theres still set-up etc... what an awesome plugin though, why would you ever hand animate a car again... I'd love to see this rendered in a textured environment with trees and stuff. You could cache the lighting out for the background and render your car seperatley for the speed issue.

Pity it doesn't work with max 8. I would upgrade just to use it though.
