I am planning a scene where light is coming from behind an object. Might be a building or anyother object.
I use 3d max and would like to know how to solve this.

I think what you mean is volumetric light.

I've only ever done volumetrics in Vue5, but I recall steve used it in one of his images on here, we'll see if he can help.

You inspired me to try this out in max for my self. So I worked out how to do volumetrics. Heres the process:

1. Create a window and blinds

2. Create a light (I like target spots for this), turn shadows on, and set to Shadow Map, in Atmospheres and effects add Volume Light

3. Render, this is how it looks in scanline

4. This is how it looks in vray with GI and environment override

Perfect, it looks great. I don't think I've ever done volume light in vray. What sort of shadows did you use?

Maybe that's why I've had trouble in the past. I don't think volume light like vray shadows
