Can you please show a render?

You could try adding a fill light to light up the shadowed areas a bit.

A fill light is a technical term for a light that, like varnishedotter said, lights up shadowed areas. It's not a specific light in Max or any program for that matter.

Is the shadow problem in your image under the eaves there?

Jamie made some cool diagrams explaining 3-point lighting you might find helpful.
