I'm a Max amateur using 3ds Max 9. It's hard to explain what i'm trying to achieve so imagine a shoe box with lots of holes in it in a dark room with a lamp inside it, the light shining out all the holes brightly. I want to create that effect in 3ds Max but I don't know how. Anyone know the most efficient way to do it?

Thanks in advance

model the shoe box, add some holes through arrays/booleans, or scatter instances and place a spotlight in the shoebox with ray trace shadows on, that would work I guess

Volume light may also be effective in this case so there are some nice beams of light coming out of the box.
