I had this problem when testing max 6 trial. The files were missing. I can't imagine you will find a link to it, but if you obtain a copy of 3ds max 5 on cd, I know for certain you'll find the mat libraries on there. That's where I got mine from. Maybe a cd of the later versions will have it, but don't know for certain. I've not tested the later versions due to hardware limitations. Good luck smile.gif.

Unfortunately i downloaded the file from the web, so i dont have any previous versions either, i have used max many years ago at another company and i dont have the time to re learn how to create basic materials such as black gloss paint of wood. i know the version i used before had a pretty good basic material library, enough to get me started anyway.

I have even spoken to Autodesk and they cant provide me with the 3dsmax.mat library, its not a download they said.
So you can down load the software and try it out but you have to create all your materials from scratch, really good way to demo a product.

I would appreciate anyone telling me where i could get basic standard materials for free.

Is it just the matlibs you need? I don't think the maps folder will help you as it's mainly for people who are just starting with the software.

Is it ok to just send you the matlibs?
