I am using Max 7 and am wondering if there is such a thing that will allow a single primitive shape (like a sphere) to take the shape of a complex form that has been constructed out of many boolean objects. basically i have never really modeled in Max and have not had to deal with UV maps and normals and all that stuff - and i am wondering if i can shortcut good modeling practice =D

Like blowing a balloon inside the boolean shape so it conforms to all corners and pockets but it really derived from a sphere.

I hope that makes sense...

Thank you.

Not really. There are morphs which will morph one shape to another shape but that won't work in this case as you need the two objects to have exactly the same amount of vertices and he same vertex order.

You could do it with vector displacement in vray SP3. but thats probably out of your scope if you have just started using max. You could also use the plugin by peter wadje called object texture to create a regular displacement map from the multiple objects then displace the original sphere. but you cant get any undercuts with regular displacement. in both cases you would need a very high res sphere to get the result you are after.
