Hello - yes, i know - it's me again. But because of you i'm having less and less problems. But, they still occur.
Mental Ray - i'm rendering with MR because it has such features as DoF, Motion Blur etc. Here are the clouds rendered with MR (i'm very proud of them, took me a little time, of course i was following the great tutorial Flying through clouds).

Any ideas?

The clouds look great. Unfortunately I have no idea what the problem might be. I haven't really used mental ray.

That's bad.. tried to google it, but it neturned me almost no results. There was some talk about 'black points', but things mentioned there don't help.
I know that clouds looks great (i'm proud of myself, but i think that i can do better wink.gif), even on the standard 3ds max renderer - but Mental Ray is givin' new, crispy look to them.
Anyway, thanks. Gonna' search for another renderer. Vray maybe? Hope i won't have to change the lights on the scene, only Vray settings...

Vray will work with most standard things. The only thing that sticks out to me is the Raytrace material, vray doesn't support it because its own materials do a much better job, and are the whole reason for having vray wink.gif

You should be able to use the vray scene converter to change all that stuff automatically.

Oh my... i see that Vray is really-really expensive. Gonna' search for some trial (if there's any) or demo...

Okay, i've got the Vray somehow. Can anybody tell how do i use the Vray scene converter? Also, how do i make this cool things that makes render more realistic like Depth of Field, Motion Blur or something called GI? (Don't know what is this)
EDIT
Nevermind, found the scene converter. But still got the problem with other things.
This renderer looks very professional (now i know why everybody's so happy about it). Hundreds of options and settings!

heres my basic "awesome settings":

1 - Global Settings, turn off "Default Lights"

2 - Antialiasing, choose "Adaptive QMC" and up the max subdivs to 100

3 - Global Illumination, just turn it on

4 - Irradience Map, turn on "Show Calc Phase" cause its cool

5 - Environment, turn on "Override" max skylight, leave the default tint or choose a new one

6 - Camera, heres where you turn on DOF and Motion Blur, only turn it on when you need to

Ofcourse theres plenty of other optimizations and cool things that you could do like caustics, but this is a fairly good base config to get you started.

And remember, GI isn't a replacement for good lighting skills.

Thats correct, look up two point and three point lighting to get a good handle on how to set up your lights.
