Hi all, I have created a cube which has 4 polygons on each side, I am trying to merge the polygons on the top of the cube into 1 big polygon instead of having 4 polygons.

Does anyone know how I can do this? Any help will be muc appreciated

Thanks, Adam.

(Btw [Link to www.tag32.com] heres a link to a picture of what I am trying to do just incase you do understand what I mean, as you can see I have selected the top 4 polygons on the cube and wish to turn them 4 into 1 big 1.)

Sorry for the simple question wink.gif

choose the four edges in edge subobject mode (editable poly) then press backspace. (not delete)
backspace does a sort of soft delete on edges and vertices leaving the polygons intact.

Delete the four polys then select the open border and use Cap.

Are those cubes in the corner of the viewports the view controls? That was one of the features of Maya that I really liked, it makes viewport navigation a lot smoother. Might be time for an upgrade...

My fav maya rip off is the Alt +mouse key nav. And Really?? You like that box? I was mad that autodesk had the nerve to clutter MY viewports.

alt+click is probably the best ripoff

Didn't realise the box was so unpopular. I thought it was pretty good most of the time, your model didn't seem to go missing like it sometimes does in max.

I hate the box too. I just turned it off. you can also shrink it down to a very small size in the corner but I find that hitting "T" for top "L" for left "P" for perspective etc is way faster. who needs a smooth animated transition either. as soon as you're scene gets slightly heavy all you want is to jump from view to view instantly. Speaking of maya to max crossover. I have wanted to setup the above viewport shortcuts like T=Top,L=Left,P=Perspective,U=User etc, in Maya but I can't find how to do it. Is that possible or am I stuck with the defaults?. I also wanted to change the whole arc rotate zoom pan config so it was the same as max because I use both programs quite alot in the same day and it shits me to tears trying unlearn and relearn that basic navigation stuff. I think thats impossible though. oh well.
