Hi guys

I'm trying to find out if it's possible to turn a mesh smooth model into the actual full polygon elements. Let me explain with screenshots:

Here is the model without meshsmooth (uncompleted still):

Here is the model with a meshsmooth of 3 interations. As you can see, does wonders to save time making complex curved objects:

Lastly, this is a screenshot with the object selected under editable poly -> Elements :

This is how the object becomes smoother, by replicating many more polygons than actually made by myself to create a smoothed surface.

But this isn't good enough for me, i would like to have the entire object made of as many physical polygons as the last screenshot. So i can move each of those polygon elements individually. The reason is that i can't port this to Lock On as mesh smooth isn't portable, instead the game would generate the first screenie.

So does anyone have a solution to make it physicall as many polygons as the last screenie? Thanks in advance

Oh and lastly, the model was made with a mirror through the vertical center, anyone know how to make the mirrored image and the actual object become one object (you know, so i can texture it and stuff without it mirroing). Thanks

If I understand what your trying to do, you just need to collapse the modifier stack.

That's correct. You can do what Chris has just said or you can just right click the object and convert to editable poly. I wouldn't reccomend it though, unless your 99% happy with the model. And if you do, make sure you keep a save of your model with all the modifiers still accessible.

Thanks for the warning advice Gustave d'Pre.

Well, this will be forewaraded to Lock On so it may need lots of modifying.

One very last question if you don't mind please. Is 3dsmax 2008 compatible with 3dsmax 7? as in this model? Or even just the finished "Colapse all" model?

THank you again guys. You have no idea how much help you were.

And, you could also use an edit mesh or edit poly modifier on top of the meshsmooth to edit without collapsing the stack smile.gif

Glad to help, I'm sorry I didn't think to include the warning, good point Steve.
Thanks for that tip Tyson, I didn't realize you could do that. You have shown once again there is always more than one way to skin a cat.
