Ok this ones a real work in progress. I started him on monday and I kind of like how its going so far.
I'd like to make some funky clothes for him and maybe rig him up in maya for animation. if I can stay enthusiastic for long enough of course. smile.gif
any suggestions or crits are welcome.

thanks john smile.gif I'm thinking something from cheech and chong would make a good animation lip sync project.

Heres an update. I finished off his figure and started on the jacket today. I'm not finished with the jacket. I'm planning on doing some sort of fabric stretching type stuff in zbrush, maybe change the style a bit and add some mexican/three amigos designs to it maybe.

Looking good Tyson. How'd you do the hair? The cartoony look to it suits him.

The hair is just max hair with about 2000 hairs with fat bottom thickness then converted to geometry

Thanks again man. When I first read that I thought you meant that the textures made him look less comical smile.gif
heres another render of his face close up after a few hours more work on textures.

Cheers, dude, Yeah I got it when I read it fully, smile.gif I'm just worried at the moment that the textures make him look a bit too
strange, he looks a bit like a startrek alien at the moment. I guess its because I went for a kind of painted look on the textures
so it looks like he's wearing makeup or something. Has anyone got any suggestions or crits so far?

The way you've lit it makes it look really good. If I was to really nitpick I'd say that the stubble is a bit too tidy. Maybe something like the image below would suit him better:

But I'm really nitpicking, it's not essential.

I agree one of the things that was bugging me too. the stubble is just a colour in photoshop with a noise filter. I'll try and get some better detail into the texture map and bump. or maybe try some maya fur. I'm going to be transfering it all into maya when I rig it so I'll probably need to re-do the hair and stuff so it can jiggle around a bit. not so sure about all that though. maya hair and fur is still a bit tricky for me.

That is a great model! And I love the details in the face!! Great job so far! A few things that I think you are missing though... FIRST, a bottle of Jose Gold Tequila on his left hand, Second his Sombrero and Colored rags! Cuz right now he looks like a Puertorrican on a bad Saturday night! grin.gif
