very nice render, I love the glass very smooth and realistic, may I suggest that the width of the straw could be not as thick, perhaps? (If you look at the straw from the top opening, maybe can try making it a little less thick material wise?) Great work, I love the glass texture! also the refracted straw in the liquid (beer please!) looks great, well thought out.
As a side note, how is Maxwell? I am considering using it soon, would you recommend it for, say, Architectural Models?

yeah the next test will have a very thin walled straw with very glossy transparency .
Yes I would recommend it. its very slow to render but you can get some very good photo realistic results if you have time to them them cook. sometimes for days. it depends alot on the setup and materials you have, it takes some getting used to and you do need to understand traditional photography to a certain extent.
haha yea I was just about to point out that the straw was a little to thick. Nice work dude Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
Nothing really. I was just testing to see if I could do this kind of effect in maxwell.
But it kindof looks like a urine sample..... with a straw!! very distasefull
I think they do, at least from what i have seen, maxwell is the most powerfull and fastest way to really enlighten your scene on a very realistic way. Vray is able to do the same, but harder to set up.
yeah, well, at this stage maxwell is far too slow for animation. and if you were up against a deadline and had to wait several days for noise to clear on a hi res still image it could be very bad news. Vray is still preferred in architecture but maxwell is becoming known for its very photo realistic results. From my perspective I'm really enjoying messing around with maxwell and its very easy to start getting highly realistic renders once you understand its method but I would still use vray for most things because of its flexibility and control and speed. There are so many times in 3d where you need to be able to push the truth a bit. use cheats and fakes etc.. with maxwell its very much a case of mimicking a camera and a lens and achieving photo realism. Highly recommended for all you architectural guys out there, believe me.
I have the demo at home. And I have a friend who bought a license for her freelance work. Grab the demo from [Link to www.maxwellrender.com]
and then the plugin for max is free. Theres some very good resources at the site to explain how it all works.
