Well, it's a Serenity firefly ship model. It's still in progress, i've worked on it for past 3 weeks, 2 weeks modeling and one week repairing and optimizing a model, i am curently doing texture work, it's a big learning project for me, im not good at texturing haha, so last couple of days i was mostly reparing my own mistakes and making new ones grin.gif Yeah, i know, to much colors grin.gif i'm redoing most of it again grin.gif
I am curently on 275k polygins and aiming on 300-320k max. Any coments, sugestions critiques are welcome, also, some texturing tips grin.gifgrin.gif

Edit, i just realized i posted in wrong forum, can someone please move it to correct one, thanks.

The model is absolutely sensational. I love that show, it shouldn't have been axed. Where did you get the reference from? The detail is amazing.

most of them wore from Serenity movie screen shots, i found some online, not so detailed ones thou, and rest is from my imagination, i love that show too, i watched the movie 50-60 times haha, i'm big fan of SF, i might do a Battlestar Galactica next, had that ship in my mind for a long time, but first have to repair this one grin.gif To many panels on ship's hull, i made small script (macro rec haha) for making those panels and i went to far with it, that cabin in earlier version had 3 times more panels than it has now, i spent almost two days of work only to repair them grin.gif

Thanks for feedback grin.gifgrin.gif

DUDE! That's amazing. Did you use greeble?

All of those panels are modeled, i used greeble on two side panels on the neck,on hangar doors panels and below wings also, to add some more detailing on panels.
Funny thing is that every greelbe is chamfered, actually everything on that ship is chamfered, that was a pain to do but it was worth it

I think greebling is actually a word they use in traditional model making to describe adding small bits of detail to make the model look more realistic and complex, like in the case of a spaceship model where it would make it look much larger if its got hundreds of panels making up the surface. the max modifier adds boxes and random box like shapes to every polygon in the mesh.

greeble is free plugin that adds random detailing to selected polygons or mesh or object, basicly just makes small boxes random shape.
and also as Tyson said, it's a word they use to add detailing.

yeah firefly was awesome and battlestar galactic also. two of the best sci-fi shows ever made. I had all the firefly eps on a harddrive and watched them back to back over a few nights. I had no idea the show was axed and when it just ended on a massive cliff hanger with all these loose ends I almost smashed my monitor in frustration.
Great work on the model very accurate and detailed. I think it would look good if you textured it procedurally rather than painting maps for it.
and or maybe paint up some masks and use blend materials to get bits that are shiny and others that are painted etc.. multiply some ambient occlusion or vray dirt into all the cracks. maybe even take it into zbrush and do a bit of a splattering of dust along the hull on a seperate mapping channel.
You could paint it as a mask and blend it into the materials back in max.

i got them on my hdd too, two of my favorite shows, and also got pissed off when season one ended and i found out that that's all, too bad smile.gif
I think Battlestar galactica season 4 last episodes should come out soon.

Anyhow, as i said i'm not good at texturing, but i will try with a procedural, i'm not to satisfied with bitmaps.
Thanks everyone grin.gif

here's an update, i took Tyson's advice and did the textures all procedurally, i think it looks much better, thanks for that grin.gif
Anyhow, render time was 4.5h on 1536x1167 resolution, just finished it.
