ok guys 1st post and as with many 1st the guy making the post is a beginner. I am using 3ds Max 2009 and well to be honest have already gotten my toilet a ton farther then I ever expected I could but since I am so close I could use a bit of help here

the problem I have is I am trying to get a smooth round area in the where I marked it in red. turbosmooth while and awesome tool is deforming it as well as meshsmooth it seems to shrink the top area inward. the smooth worked great on the upper corners and for most of of the bowl but a have a couple small areas to fix. anyone have an idea how to fix it?

I am sorry if my I lack the proper terms I am a beginner like I mentioned, in fact I almost bet that the answer is a term I need to look into.

Have you tried applying a smooth modifier to the mesh? There you can select your own threshold value in angular degrees on how the program will blend the surfaces from edgy ones to smooth ones.

You also want to make sure that all faces that needs to be smoothed into eachother belongs to the same smoothing group (in the editable poly dialog, a bit down). You can also search the 3ds reference help file and search for "smooth" and "smoothing groups".

Check this mesh out, from left to right. Smooth modifier applied to mesh of 0, 70 and 100 respectively. Hope this resolves your problem.

Or look up smoothing groups in the max help files.

Smoothing groups can effect your object awesomely without adding extra polys.
