Hi guys!
I need help with max 9.
I make my modell with poly modelling, and when I convert it to editable mesh, or just want to use the slice tool, the mesh ruins. Here's some screenshots

after: [Link to i377.photobucket.com]
I have to say, that I worked for some time in max8 too, and didn't had this problem there...so is it some bug in the software ( i don't believe smile.gif ), or i fu***d up something?

that happens sometimes when you convert a poly object already edited and modeled into mesh object and i don't know the solution only a manual repair.when you use a slice tool, it's good to be in vertex mode to see where and how will your mesh be sliced and where will vertexes collide or stand one on top the other. I used slice tool like million times and i never had that sorts of problems, i use max 2009 thou.

don't know i've never encountered this problem....why don't you just stick with editably poly is there any particular reason for editable mesh?
and instead of using the slice tool why dont you try using Cut, so that you can snap to vertices and edges when cutting, and can see what you are doing clearly... it'll take more time but might be worth it

Well the reason I convert it to editable mesh is, that I used this for a long time, and sometimes I convert an object to editable mesh because of habit. Lately I am using editable poly, but this problem is irritating.
And, I am usually using the cut tool, I don't know why I wanted to use the slice..it doesn't matter...
Anyway, thanks for the answers

well, slice tool is really handy one i could probably find a million uses for it, and it's not buggy as far as i know, the problem you have is when you convert your objects from an editable poly to editable mesh and those are two very different modeling tools, problem is when max converts your geometry to mesh and i'm guessing now but when you try to convert it back to poly it looses some geometry data, my guess is because edit poly and edit mesh use two different systems for geometry, i would recommend that if you really don't work in edit mesh then try to loose the habit to convert it, but in some cases, usually when dealing with heavy scenes converting your objects to editable mesh can improve viewport speed, but that's only when you're finish modeling them, or you intend to model in editable mesh
