I wanted to share my latest web design and get some feedback on the direction that I am taking this. I've already created the stairway animation for the flash intro and have designed the loading programming and basic site setup. I am waiting for my customer to supply me with up to date photo's to build into the sight. I used to do a lot of Flash AS2.0 programming, but AS3 is fairly new to me. Please take a look at this an let me know what you think.. My clients love the staircase and wanted me to slow it down, so I just changed the frames per second in flash.

This site is under construction.... [Link to www.3dartconcepts.com]

Here is the site that they currently have: [Link to www.allenstairways.com]
It looks like it must have been made with FrontPage.

Thanks

Rick

My only problem is the load time! The site looks great but when my connection downloads at over 17300kbps and 1891kbps a brochure site shouldn't take more than a few seconds for me to download. The video was the slowest thing to download! If i was a customer I probably would have hit "skip intro" in a heartbeat. But it looks good. I like the UI and I would call it finished. A little lag never hurt anyone, anyway.

As of right now, the intro movie is 2MB. I've already saved it at 80% on quality. 70% really start looking pixelated. As far as the main site, it 200k and everything else will load inside of that. I really wish I could compress the intro more without loosing so much quality.

Thanks for the comments.

Ok, try these settings..... I took the intro down to 50%.. Let me know if that looks ok or if I should find somewhere in between. This takes it from 2mb to 900kb. I also reduced the main site to 70% which dropped it down to 174kb.

I don't want to sacrifice too much quality for loading time.

It felt about the same to me. If it's faster then i believe you. It looks good and you should call it finished until you get content from the provider.

Well, I've decided to split the difference.. Went with 70% on the movie. It bumped it to 1.4Mb, but I like the quality better. Hey, that's why they put "SKIP INTRO" buttons...lol

Intro looks great! The photos from the original site need some major attention. Too faded out and some colors are under or over powering. Nice start on the site on your part!

I think the load time is very acceptable and the site looks great. My one crit would be that perhaps the camera in the animation isn't super smooth, but the scene looks so great, it really isn't too big a problem.

Yea, I put the connect the camera to a smooth line with the path constraint, but it seem that no matter how much I tried, I couldn't get it to not jerk when it was changing directions.

I find that if I start with path animation I will invariably switch to keyframing it because of the jerkyness. If you want to smooth out the animation just set very few keys and carefully adjust the handles in trackview so they are all linear through the middle but still flowing. if you know what I mean. One thing I do is set a key at the beginning and the end positions then switch max to add smooth keys by default (the little flyout at the bottom of the interface) then add keys along the way to curve the trajectory. the smooth keys will mean there won't be any easing in and out along the way. if that makes sense.

I've really put in some our today on this sites programming. Let me know what you think of it so far. My customer still has a lot of data and photo's to supply before I can finish.

Good catch! I forgot that I'm generating movieclip instances instead of buttons, so I have to add "buttonMode = true". Thanks

The only thing that bugs me is that the Testimonials are hard to read. I had to really sit and concentrate.

I'm not sure if it is the font style or the contrast between the font and the background. To me, the first one is the hardest to read.

Yea, those are just a couple of demo's that I was showing my clients. I'll be changing those as soon as they get me the real testimonials.

With the UI interface on the Gallery, it's the first time that I've attempted to put image info from an XML file. It works quite well.

Thanks again for the comments
