As some of you probably noticed, i haven't been around much lately, i had some internet problems which are now hopefully resolved.
Anyhow i started couple projects, two exteriors and one interior on which i'll post my progress and final renders here.
Interior is finished (at least one camera render,i hope to find some time to render some different views) and two exteriors, both unfinished. I'll post second exterior soon smile.gif
critics and suggestions are welcome as usual grin.gif

The interior is really great, my one small crit would be that skirting boards usually aren't shiny. Every thing else is pretty spot on though, and the lighting is excellent. The exterior needs a bit of work but I'll comment more when you post a later version. Good to see you posting again.

Always look forward to seeing more of your work.

1.) You need to soften the reflections on the wood material. Everything else is great.

2.) The composition in this shot leaves something to be desired. The building being cut of like that make me feel very claustrophobic. I would use a wide angle, also maybe move the building away from the center of the scene. I think the lighting is a little dull also it feels quite oppressive, but not oppressive enough to me moody.

Great work, looking forward to the updates.

The interior is really nice. agreed on the reflections. Try fresnel with 100% reflection or maybe a falloff map perpendicular/parallel as a compromise. the second image is coming along too, try some 3 point perspective maybe.

Thanks everyone.
Yeah, reflections on interior are to strong, i'll have to fix that
i'll have to work on that camera angle on exterior render, it bugs me too that the building is cut off at the top, definitely a wider angle. 3 point perspective sounds like great idea.
Lighting look dull, i didn't actually worked on lighting at all, i just set up a simple hdri and target spot just to see how would it look like.

here's an update on my second exterior, it's still work in progress so crits an suggestions are welcome as usual grin.gif
first render is an old one, but it has grass on it, second one is from today but without grass, i didn't have the time to wait for longer render so i just turned it off for that one grin.gif

Looks great, you've really nailed the lighting. What are the render times like?

you'll all laugh probably, but lighting is done with only vray sun system, that's the only source of light in the scene. i played a lot with sun settings and vray camera's shutter speed and ISO film speed, coloring is set to exponential with dark multi 1.5 and light multi on 0.5, it's preview render with irradiance map set on low and light cashe.
Render times without grass displacement are 3-5 mins for test rends on 800x640 (i forgot to mention i got a new cpu, intel quad q6600, on 2.2ghz i think default, overclocked on 3.2)
and with displacement 1.5h, quite a difference indeed. I plan on replacing the displace grass with vray fur and hair and fur later on.
I'm currently working on messing things up a bit, it looks to clean, especially the roof, and adding some details, i'll post an update soon.

Edit.
i forgot to mention, everything is rendered with mental ray except last exterior, house, that's vray, i'm kinda new to vray, didn't use it much to often, so it's one big experiment and learning process grin.gif

i was thinking the same thing right now, that the house looks too clean smile.gif
but i have to say it looks really good! i like the one with grass better, not just because it has grass, but even the colours have a more natural tone...

there it is, i've uploaded it to my portfolio, but i still have some work to do on final render. I had some problems with the grass, i tried vray fur in combination with max's hair and fur but my render times had gone up way to much, draft render was 2h and had to abort it because it was not 40% completed in that time on 320x240 resolution so i decided to use displace instead.

I like the house, one thing and you can just ignore me if you like. I think it might look better if the front of the house was not in shadow. Seen as it is the main attraction it seem strange to have it in shadow.

Looks great, especially the interior eek.gif' One thing though about the last two pics, I don't think everything would be so pristine clean.

I find that one of the hardest things. Dirtying things up. My textures blow out and I usually end up scattering half a million objects through the scene haha.

here's another update. I switched from Mental Ray to Vray for that first interior. fixed some things and rendered another cam. And as usual i forgot something, on that first rend, i had some splotches on the walls, forgot to fix that and some illumination differences between two rends grin.gif crits and comments welcomed as usual grin.gif

great realism man, not overexposed. good attention to detail. Is that an accurate model of your real work environment?

-Altopais

yeah it is, well i didn't model all the stuff on my shelves, there's tons of stuff there, i would probably end up with couple of milion polys grin.gif
But everything else is accurate, modeled as i see from my chair, at least that first render grin.gif
