I read this story today and i thought it was piles of awesome!!!

Back in February, Microsoft announced that it planned to end Xbox LIVE support for its original console. Then, in March, the company offered some consolation prizes to loyal Xbox gamers. Now, the deadline has come and gone, but, naturally, a group of avid gamers has found a way to skirt the system.

According to Eurogamer, about 20 gamers who were playing 'Halo 2' simply refrained from turning off their consoles on April 15th, which has allowed them to keep playing the game online. But, as you can imagine, the numbers have dwindled. Not because they can't stand up to this marathon gaming session, but because their consoles can't last. Overheated Xboxes and lost network connections ended a few gamers' online 'Halo 2' days, but according to Geekosystem, there were still 16 loyalists playing the game online as of Sunday afternoon.

We're not sure if Microsoft will boot these folks or just let them ride out in a blaze of glory (or in a smoke-filled room from an overheated console). However, we applaud their effort, dedication and moxie -- or insanity, depending on how you look at it

It is ok, I wouldn't talk to me either...

Haha, that's pretty cool. I wonder how long they'll last?

Yeah thats pretty crazy. I'm not really in the xbox loop, what is the reason they are kicking the old consoles? Do they want to push LIVE to areas where the old console just cant handle?

Yeah basically, they want to update live, get new stuff in and the old xbox stuff is holding them back.

Well here is the final update on this story

"He is Apache N4SIR. Nearly a month after Microsoft shut down the original Xbox Live, he was one of the Noble 14 who kept their connections running. Their numbers slowly dwindled, and today, he was the last Spartan standing.

At 4 p.m. U.S. Pacific Time, Agent Windex and Apache N4SIR were the last ones left connected to Halo 2 multiplayer - a link kept alive since midnight of April 15. Though Microsoft attempted to lure the Halo 2 diehards away with Halo: Reach beta codes and a pat on the back they stayed in until they got the boot. But then at 4:21 Agent Windex sent this message to the Bungie forums:

I just got kicked off guys.

Good Job Apache, your the last one.

As of 7 p.m. U.S. PDT, Apache N4SIR was still in Halo 2 - doing what, who knows. Apache N4SIR had been streaming his play, and now, without an opponent, wondered what he should be doing. Someone suggested beginning the campaign - but not beating the final mission, as it would sign him off.

Others asked that he capture himself signing out of the game and post the video to YouTube. I'm not sure what kind of signoff he could give to do this game justice. It should be something epic.

Final Update: Shortly before 11 p.m. PDT, May 10, 2010, Apache N4SIR left Halo 2. He says he was booted from the game. This is the end of multiplayer on Halo 2 and the original Xbox Live."

Cool story, but I don't know what their problem is. The new xbox live looks pretty sweet.
We were watching movies off it the other day, which were streaming. That's kinda cool. I mean, my Pent II could do that, but still...
Anyhoo, thanks for the post.

Well people obviously still use the original xbox for games, especially halo 2, so they are just upset that they can no longer play one of their favourite games online any more.
Being someone who doesn't own a original xbox but does a 360, I say that im all for this move though. It allows Microsoft to create a even better xboxlive experience and I am all for it!

I just hate windows live games (PC version of the xbox live) as it slows down my gaming experience with useless updates and info spreads that I'm not going to use (me not MP fan)......

I agree I hate that service. I bought Batman Arkham Asylum and I had to spend 20 minutes downloading updates and creating an account which failed 8 times.
