Hey guys, Been working hard on V4.

I just picked up a game the other day called Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. It is a modern day tactical shooter. However the really cool thing is that it comes with a pretty funky mission editor. It is a good way to get into scripting game mechanics without having to build your own engine.

Just letting people know, in case anyone is interested in this kind of thing.

Sounds interesting. I've been thinking of trying that game out. I was looking forward to it but when i saw some reviews they made me think twice. something about being very very hard and only for a niche market. How do you rate it?

Also, while we are on the subject of games (again) has anyone else been playing Borderlands? Ive been playing for a while and its very addictive but I'm always on the edge of asking myself: is this actually good? no story, no physics, not the greatest art design repetitive and a little too much red neck American depressing humour, and yet I'm itching to play it when I get home from work.

What i saw, borderlands is like a diablo 2 shooter, and I think would be piles of fun multiplayer. I guess like L4D, it really has no story, the joy in it, is playing it with other people!!
It is ok, I wouldn't talk to me either...

Yeah man it is fun. It is hard, but if you prefer more strategy in a shooter I would recommend it. Plus I assume you will be playing on 360 and as far as I know it is the only game of it's kind on console. I like it. However I will be playing modern warfare 2 for the next few weeks. Hopefully months if IWnet works. or they give us dedicated servers on pc.

Have you tried out ARMA2?? It has a mission editor etc with it aswell, i honestly havent used it yet so im not sure how powerfull it is.

Is operation really buggy? I hear it is, that is my big problem with arma 2...so many bugs >.< still a great game though.

I have experienced no bugs in 30 hrs of gameplay. Arma2 was bugged 2 seconds into the game. The only thing about it that sucks is that the number of AI in custom maps is limited to 64. The reason of course is stability but it kinda sucks.

Alright awsome

I still thought it was strange that arma2 runs best under Win7, rather than xp or vista stare.gif (Ive seen it myself on my own machine, but I know 5 other people who came up with the same results)

Makes me think about getting it more...

really, you are honestly the only person i know who has had troubles running the game under windows 7, everyone who has windows 7 (32 bit and 64 bit) have all had really good results for it. I would say mess with more settings, make sure your viewing distance isnt high, turn off post process effects (they are more trouble than worth), turn the video memory up to the highest oh and mess around with the 3d resolution settings, some peoples worked well if they matched the resolution, but not so well if they turned it down, other people had to turn it down as it didnt work higher....

Im sorry it doesnt work for you though >.< Once you get it playable it is a good game.

Yeah I did spend a loooong time tweaking it. Every five minutes I would be pausing the game to mess with my settings. Im playing Modern Warfare 2 at the moment, if I ever get bored of that ill give it another try and post the results here.

I have played Operation Flashpoint Cold war crisis for almost 8 Years long. The game is way more stable, better, and playable then OFPgrin.gifragon Rising, which is actually half of what OFP really was. Bohemia interactive and Codemasters worked together on the old version, which is still played by thousands today. It was great.

It had the original mission editor which is the same as Arma's and as Arma's 2 one.

The Armed assault games are pretty much the real sequels to the original Operation Flashpoint Cold war crisis, Resistance and Red Hammer.

I have played all the games but I returned OFPgrin.gifragon rising. it is really not worth having that name for a game that was so great.

Arma 2 is a much more free game, where the mission editor is also much more faster, fluent. The bugs Acaroid tells you about can be fixed but indeed, an unpatched game might be sometimes a bit of a hassle, but it is really worth the money.

If you ask me which to choose, OFPgrin.gifG or Arma 2 , then I would go for Arma 2 at all costs. It has the total feeling of it and you are way more free then in OFPgrin.gifG. You are really much limited to actions and you cannot really build extensive missions or play around.

I'm not saying Dragon rising is a bad game but if you have played OFP you will really be dissapointed with this game as a sequel.

My two cents.

Arma2 is way to ambitious. I own it and I gave up on it fast. It is horribly buggy to the point where it is unplayable. It doesn't run unless you have a computer from the future. The animations and effects are horrible. There are a lot of things about it that I love. But at the end of the day the game is unplayable. I have a quad core there is no excuse for a game of this graphical quality not to run at 60fps at least.

Everyone has their own opinions, true true, and I understand what you mean. Odd though, I run a quad core aswell with a ddr3 and a Geforce 9800, with no problems at all at high.

Yes, some things look buggy, and might look odd. But I like the game better then ofp 2 smile.gif

I respect your opinions though.

I like ambition in games though!
and look at the first crisis, it became THE bench mark to set your new computer to.

My amd dual core +6000 (4 gig, radeon 4870 1gig) run the game alright all on the higest settings.... if im using win 7 stare.gif

On xp and vista you have to drop eerything down and tweek with stuff for awhile to get a playable.

The recent patch has fixed alot of the bugs I was having (co-op campaign was a big pile of horror) but some strange bugs still are present in the campaign (Why did it want to eject us all from the plane before it landed i still dont know).

Fingers crossed that the community that stood behind arma1 comes behind arma2 and makes some really awsome add-ons for the game.

It is ok, I wouldn't talk to me either...

Most of the community you see at Armedassault.info comes from the original site, Flashpoint.gamepark.cz. This is the mother of all addons and creations. Most of them already created addons for Arma 1 , and ther's already alot active for Arma 2.

I still have it installed.

I have a quad 4gigs of ddr3 and a 9600gt and I get a max of 30fps. Anything under that and it becomes unplayable for me.

I love the concept, I just don't think it works.... yet.

i loved the first OFP, online community was awesome, played it for years. Was the first taste I got of open world gaming really. Never played ARMA though.

I bought OFPgrin.gifR for xbox a while ago. thought it was v. good tbh, although hard as nails, got to the 3rd mission on the easiest difficulty and no further. Tried it online just after release and no one was playing on xbox live, although i plan to go back and see if its got busier now its been out a while.

Shame i dont have the pc version for the level editor though, many hours of my life went on the original back in the day. Even invented a new game mode for online... hehe...

Yeah the game died on PC because they didn't have dedicated servers. And yes that 3rd lvl was insane.

Yep I really wish you could sell on the rights to games you bought on steam. There are a lot of games I wish I hadn't bought.

Yeh, if I'm not 100% sure about a game I'll generally wait until the price drops or it comes on special. Steam makes games very accesable and it's very easy just to type in your credit card details and click the order button without giving it much thought. Not like in the "olden days" when you actually had to go to a shop and buy games.

I know what you mean. But I kinda of like it in a way because now I can actually afford and justify buying games.
