I've started a new project that consists of many different plugin's. I will be utilizing FumeFX, VRay, Mental Ray, Vue & Rayfire, then putting it all together in After Effects. I hope it will be very interesting when I get done. I'm doing separate renders of different elements and hope to pull it all together. The main run with Rayfire and VRay is almost done after 17 hours of rendering. I'm expecting my different Fume renders and Vue render to take even longer.

Well the first render is complete, now, 24 hours to render the background using Vue and Mental Ray.. Then I can start of the Fume Elements. I'll post a screen shot after this render to give you an idea of what it looks like. Just a hint though, it will be of an outhouse in the woods.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwNZmi243aY

YouTube is down right now, but you can look at a preview of what I have done so far...... I have to add a lot of Fume FX to the scene with explosions and smoke..

Well done Rick. I've always been too scared to animate the simplest stuff in vue, did you have any problems?. It certainly doesn't look like you did. I can't wait to see the next installment.

I wasn't too bad. It was my first go at trying Vue. I did realize that the tree's animated on their own. I kept trying to set up a ventilator, but could get it to work right and to my surprise they were moving when I was done. This project is taking a lot of time. I've been doing different layers of Fume to try and get the different effect I want. Almost done with it.

Could you outline your process? Nothing too detailed, I'm just interested to see how you did what and what program you did it in. Unless you're like a magician and don't want to give away your secrets.

Oh mercy..
I started with making the hill and constructing the outhouse. Then I opened up RayFire to create the fragmentation and initial blowout. I placed 3 different bomb to get the effect. The first raises the outhouse just a little, the second blows it outward and the third blows the top half straight up. I did this to get a rain of debris over time. Once I was happy with that, I applied VRay Fur to the hill to create some grass. I rendered the hill, grass and blowout in VRay and exported it to an Quicktime movie with Alpha Channels for comping.

Next, I moved to Vue to generate the 3 islands, water and sky environment and rendered with Mental Ray.

After that, I was ready to work on the main explosion, so I cranked up FumeFx and went to work. I had to select all of the pieces of the fragmented outhouse to get the collisions correct, but by the end of the day, the explosion is so quick, the detail really wasn't needed. Then once again, I rendered with VRay and exported with Alpha Channels.

Keep in mind, I had a camera with a path constraint with some added noise, so I reused the same scene for every render and just saved as separate files so the camera angles and shakes would be the same when it was time to comp.

Next, I selected several fragments that I knew would been seen the longest and set up Fume to burn those fragments. I did make these piece renderable with the fire and just layered them on top of the original when comping. I found that just exporting the flames and placing them on top of the original render had weird results.

Finally, I used a biped and just did some slight animation of kicking around. I ran him a little slow, simply for the fact of being able to recognize that he is moving and to match the scream and thump sound file that I found.

The last thing to do was to put it all into After Effects and comp it together with different audio files. I tried to get creative with the amount of smaller debris falling. I found a sound file of rain hitting a metal roof and took it into Audition and gave it more bass.

I put about 15 to 20 hours of work into this with about 50 total hours of render time.

Crikey, I wasn't expecting anything that in depth, but thanks. It seems about as complex as I suspected. wink.gif

And sound as well???

I think I need to add a character falling in the back ground on fire.. Since it's so far away, maybe just a biped.

Haha! You've done really well to get all those different ingredients working well together, it looks really good. I've just got a couple of crits. I think the scale of the flames is too big, it makes it look like a miniature. And perhaps the flaming man could fall a bit faster. Other than that, I salute you for undertaking a really complex project and pulling it off really well. You've managed to capture how I feel after eating a bag full of prunes magnificantly.
