So someone says, "I'm a web programmer that's gonna make a website, about ____, and I need graphics help". So I go, "@#$ yeah! I'm your soldier! I don't have a lot of time, but I believe in your project and want to help out in any way I can". He responds with, "Bad ass. Let's do stuff".

I get no direction... He doesn't answer any of my fking questions. I send him some random graphics, because he's not giving direction, and he acts surprised when it's not what he wants. And instead of giving me any god damn direction to go in he talks about how he will use the graphics once they're "perfect for the site".

My thoughts: WHAT THE @#$K DOES THAT @#$T MEAN, YOU LAZY 4SS HOLE!!!!!! I'M GIVING YOU MY F#@)ING TIME AND WILL DRAW EVERYTHING FOR YOU AND ALL YOU CAN DO IS SIT DOWN WITH A GOLDEN THUMB UP YOUR 4$$!!! !@#K YOU!

So, I asked him my final questions about specific jobs the site is going to do, and he still hasn't gotten back to me. F#$@ that guy. I'm not doing sh!7 until he grows a pair and mans up to be a director.

I know you guys can tell who I am, because it shows my name under AUTHOR, but I'm in anonymous mode just for his sake. However, if he keeps this up it's not gonna matter.

people can be unbelievably stupid when it comes to this stuff. Its a rare gift to find people who actually work well together. its either this type of thing with bad communication and lack of effort to understand. or its egos getting in the way of anything creative.
I recently tried to instigate a game project with two of my friends. one of them who was going to do most of the programming was cool but the other 3d artist guy just suddenly turned into a douche. suddenly every idea I had was shunned with a superior grin and condescending shake of the head and then a ridiculous one sided discussion about the game's title pissed me off so much I have just given up. Just call it frikking "working title" and get on with it, but no, we had to go through days of the other two guys discussing interesting ways of generating names through random word games. At this rate we will be arguing about what colour the main characters hat is well into 2012. Why are people so hard to deal with damn it.

Exactly!

How hard is it to land as many production goals as possible, instead of worrying about everything being perfect the first time!!!! Wait till you have something that works, like a rough draft, THEN d!ck around with modifications and corrections.

Wow. I just let this guy have it!
I let everything out! Real hate!

edit:
He wrote that it's my fault for not understanding him. I suppose if I had a second chance I would interpret his silence as direction or leadership. If only I had a time machine, right? We told each other to #@%k off and went our separate ways.

I know all too well the trails of working creatively with other people. As long as communication is open you can pretty much deal with anything that comes along. Ego is the biggest problem when It comes to collaboration and something we all fall victim to. However, if the people in a team learn to work out their differences and they have a passion for what they are doing it tends to be successful.

I am working on a game with Otter at the moment, we have started and never finished many projects in the past and this time we have really been pushing ourselves to the finish line. It has caused a lot of friction between the two of us at times. However at the end of the day we talk it out and keep moving. I think it is a skill that your learn through working together for a long time and having mutual interests.

well said!

Your right, communication is the key in any group situation! Ive had to work on many projects with all sorts of people and it is the ones where the communication fails that the projects fail. Mind you in group situations 9 times out of 10 I end up organising/controlling everything, I tend to have a good knack for it, comes with being a good problem solver (that and I have the balls to speak my mind).
It is ok, I wouldn't talk to me either...

That AUTHOR thing is a bug by the way, a bug I will be fixing right now. The system is meant to be 100% anon.

This sounds a lot like the job I'm working on at the moment. We've had no real direction at all along the way, other than make everything shiny and magical. Clearly the director has no idea until we present stuff to him and he says no, change this make it more like this. You end up doing everything two or three times so you don't get a chance to polish everything and I'm majorly worried that the end result is gonna look crap. Either that or I'm not gonna see my family for the next two weeks.

If we'd had some story boards or a nice animatic from the start things would have been alot easier, but the animatic only gets cut together as we present the work. It's like one of those real time strategy games where the map is revealed the more you explore. Fun when you're playing an RTS, not fun when your trying to do an animation that's going to be potentially viewed by millions of people.

Yeah that's total crap.
At least you're seeing first hand what bad direction can do, so you'll know better when you're at the reins.
