Firstly you need to ask your self what kind of snowman you wish to make, are you looking for something with a cartoon feel or something realistic?

If it is something with a cartoon feel you are after take a look at this:

Hope this helps.

I think with a snowman, it's really going to come down more to textures than the model. The shape of a snowman is quite basic really - 2 or 3 spheres - but it's the lumpyness of the handpacked snow that's going to sell the image for you, and the way the snow reacts to the light. You'll probably need to use a lot of displacement to get it to look right, both material and to a lesser extent, modifier.

I see what your getting at, like a hunch back snowman, yeah use a displacement modifier and cellular map. or maybe a noise modifer to get the bumpyness of packed snow..

hey can't i use the material editor? currently my snowman's body is made from material editor and it's a smoke map. it looks ok. but abit dirty. i don't know how to set the colour. i'll show..it's not very obvious actually.

you can change the colours inside the smoke map. just make one very nearly white and the other one 100% white. or you can use a noise map instead. pretty much the same thing really. It might look good if there is some specular level in there too. not too much glossyness. you want a kind of matte shine with some fractal noise in the bump very subtle.

ahh...ok i'll try it then. hopefully it looks better =P

Edit: this is the noise one. i like the flow. but still it's abit black. why is it?

If your noise map is in the diffuse colour slot
Those two colours are what you will see.
Just make the darker colour even closer to white
And putting some lights and shadows im the scene will change
Things to. Its a good idea to adjust the materials with
Some lights to make sure they will look right in the end.

i place noise in bump. not diffuse. and i already adjust the colour. but it's still like that smile.gif i will try the light then. grin.gif
