What sort of problems are you having? Generally the max bones system is pretty good, maybe we can help you get it working the way you'd like it.

Hi I made this video on bones rigging a few years ago. I didnt get up to rigging the arms
so if you have questions there let me know, It covers the basics of using bones in max so you should be able to do the arms based on how the legs were done. the video is quite big it goes for about 20 minutes 720X576 and is about 80mb with xvid encoding.
Let me know if its usefull.

Maps and materials are a very large area. Are there any specifics you want to know or are you just looking for whatever you can get?

I'm trying to find best way to do a good material. I know how to use a photoshop and a I can do a very good maps. Problem is that I don't know wich way to choose. Should I use unwrap, Z-brush,...or something else? A lot of people advised me some things but I was not happy with that. Could you please let me know, which way do you choose whan you want to do a god maps for your charackter?

tnx

z-brush is great but its alot to learn if your on a tight deadline. You can paint directly on your mesh using the vertex colours then copy the colours to a 2d texture. Z-brush will generate the uvs automatically a bit like flatten mapping in unwrap uvw modifier.

Unwrapping can be tedious but it means you have a 2d image that you can paint on in photoshop.

Personally I think for an animation you can get away with very simple materials maybe even just different colours with nice lighting and focus on the animation and rigging side of things.
