Hi, I'm sorry for the sudden message, but I'm in the middle of a university project and having a bit of a crisis.

Basically I'm following a tutorial on modelling a 3d head using photographs of a real person. Its not too important because its quite a simple problem, I just don't know how to fix it.

So here goes. Basically I created an image in photoshop which is to be used as a sort of guide for the next stage in 3d. I applied this image to a plane, and I now need to use the image to start 'tracing' guidelines from the image.

Here's a link to a picture of my problem:

For some reason the image has become very pixellated and impossible to work with. I wondered if maybe it had accidentally been changed to a lower resolution and some of the data lost, but as you can see when I render the image, the picture looks fine. However I need the picture on the plane to be clear in order for me to work with it.

Any ideas as to whats wrong, and how I can solve it?

Help would be much appreciated. I've used Max for a few projects already, but I still enounter problems now and then.

What format did you save out to? also what is the pixel dimension you rendered out? and Is the background pic an alpha or part of the image?

Try this.
Go to the top tool bar menu>Customize>Preferences>'TAB' Viewports>Configure Driver>

You should see this menu:

under "appearance preferences"
the settings i have are
Background texture size: 1024
Match bitmap size as closely as possible: yes
download texture size: 512
Match bitmap size as closely as possible: yes

Here's a link on more information about this menu.

What's happening, i believe, is your texture resolution is turned down. I think it's a max setting but it could also be a video card setting. I do not think you're exporting your image incorrectly, so this, what i wrote above, is the most likely solution.

Thank you Isaac! Direct3d wasnt even set as my driver but I changed it and put the settings that way and it works perfectly.

I'll post up a picture of the end result if you like.

Then I've got a more fun 3d project coming up wink.gif

Nice to meet you, I may return sooner than you think, lol.
