I have been using the Illustrate plug-in to make a cartoon recently and I have been having problems where the outlines of my 3d models look jagged or show pixels like in the box illustrated in the link if you look closely.

It shows pixels as if it was a low resolution no matter how high I make the resolution.

Can anyone help me out or tell me another, way to get a 2d look from my 3d projects?

It looks like you need to up the resolution of your mesh objects.
You can also use the ink and paint material in max, its a bit slow though.
another way is to make a material using a falloff map like this image illustrates. and use a mental ray outline through the mental ray connection rollout.

Thanks for your help.

How do I up the resolution of my mesh objects?

I tried the Ink and Pain option but the results were unpredictable and even bad in some cases not to mention how slow it was.

Apply a turbosmooth or meshsmooth modifier.

increasing the polygons still didn't help me.

I understand how to use the Fall off but how do I use a mental ray outline through the mental ray connection rollout

The mental ray connection is at the bottom of your material editor
make sure mental ray is your current renderer and load one of the contour options.
heres a pic.
