Hey im kind of new to 3ds max and I know there are a ton of plug ins and compatible programs for max and I was just hoping someone could give me a list of some that could make life a little easier for me while working with this program.

Currently I am Working with 3ds Max 9 and I want to model these aspects...
Game design: Characters, Levels, Items ect..
Animation: Characters, and scenes

Anything that could help in the modeling, rendering, rigging, skinning, or animating process is what im interested in..

Thanks for the link looks very helpful exactly what I was looking for.

Are any of those like tree creators and environment creators used for level design at all or is that normally done manually?

yea seems like modeling out environments would get tedious generators like that must be helpful.

I have tried exporting trees/environments from vue xtreme to my 3d engine and it works well.

though that sticky does list a lot of plugins, you won't need most of them for game design.
characters, levels, items and scenes can all be done with 3dsmax alone. it's really a comprehensive software package.

for purposes other than game design, those plugins will help. if you need lots of trees, or picture-perfect rendering, or even nice water smile.gif

I figured Max would be enough for most aspects of game design, but ever sense I have been getting into animation I have seen some outrageously gorgeous work out there and I was kinda curious to see some of the render programs and all that stuff that helps with making a perfect looking scene. I probably don't have a good enough pc to use most of it anyway.. and I definitely don't have the money to buy any of it lol. But theres ways to atleast learn new programs if I know there out there wink.gif

Thnx again for the link if you guys want you can delete this thread I would but it's not an option for me XD.gif

Good pc doesnt matter so much for offline rendering, the process just takes longer.

If your pc's not all that crash hot, maybe game design is the way to go for now. After all, game assets should be as low poly as possible, and what better motivation to keep the number of polys down than a slow computer. It'll certainly force you to model efficiently.

Yea thats true but games graphics are getting more high end every year I feel like low poly is good to an extent but I should have some stunning looking models as well. I could be wrong about that tho and they're all still pretty low poly still im kinda new to the whole process..

the models are still low poly they acheive the detail with displacement maps.

ahh all UVW unwrapping and texturing tricks hmm that's gonna be the next tricky thing to master.. I guess I should get better at perfecting my edge loops for some low poly models then.
