I would go with the black on also because it looks more like pen and ink and I like pen and ink.

As for the actual content I would consider making the colors fit more with the theme, i.e. black and Grey text. Your images will add color and variety to the page.

I agree, I think the first one has just a bit too much colour. It kind of draws the eye away from your work which is not what you want. In the black and white one your eye is drawn the middle of the page where your work is so I'd go with that one.
