Hy, I'm registered again cause i lost my pasword and my USername-- I have a problem using 3dsmax version 8.
Problem: In a tutorial I have seen that there's a command button or function called "Connect" that should create a line between one or more vertex of a poligon, recreating it, when this last one is deleted for mistake, during object modelling. I have foud Connect button but, when I click on two opposite vertex one far from another, i can't create a line between them, moreover I can't find Connect 1 - Connect 2- Connect 3 and other Function.. Where i Have to search? Maybe 3dsmax need a special plug in ti introduce this functions inside this program?

Connect only works for vertexes on the SAME FACE that aren't next to each other. It sounds like you need a tool that spans past a single face (why connect isn't working) so i recommend using 'Target weld," or "quick slice" (select faces that need cutting).

I have tried to use "Target Weld" between to opposite vertexes but nothing happens, the problem is, for example, I have to create a polygon that has 4 segments (cause the main object it has been converted in a editable poly) but I have now only two segments, having a common vertex, of it, and I want to recreate the other two missing segments and so that polygon, Where i Should use Target Weld? Maybe I have done a mistake!! Thank you!!

I read your paragraph and reworded it into this. Tell me if i understand you correctly:
"I have drawn two segments that join at a single vertex. I need to create two more segments to make a whole poly. Target weld wont work because I have no faces on this model."

Do you know how to "shift copy"? grab a single segment and move it while holding shift. You will make more faces each time you drag.

From what I understand of the question I think the cut tool is your best option. Either that or what Issac said. But I could be wrong (there's always a first time) Could you post an image?

Above all give my excuses for the remarkable delay with which the image has appeared on the forum, but I have had some problems of installation of a software. I Have posted the image about which I was talking in which comes explained the reason of my problem. the interested zone is the blank highlighted one with the tops in blue.
Would have also another problem, this time with the use of the "Meshtools". Have unloaded the "meshtools" by max 3ds version 7, which is also right for the version 8 in .rar or .zip format, however I do not know how to insert them in 3dsmax since in the archive file he lacks reame.txt which specifies the file to be inserted and the ways. Can you help me? Thanks

I would say use "Bridge" on the four edges, but I don't think Max 8 has that tool.
You could select two of the edges and use the select and move gizmo while holding shift.
Then just drag those edges over to meet the other two.

Yeh, that's what I'd do. And Max 8 doesn't have bridge? I didn't realise it was that new.

Sorry, but I' don't know what you refer when you tell Gysmo.. I have learn something about this Gysmo, many month ago, but now i don't remember, In any case, I have tried to move an edge of a polygon with "select and move" active and Edge modifier option selected, Holding Shift, in order to create another edge equal to the original, i have also realized a new polygon!! But Still remain a problem! How can I "Align" 1 Vertex of a polygon with another one near to it and fixed at at hte same distance: Look the pitcure please.. Maybe is more easy to understand.. Thank you.

select two or more vertices and press ctrl+alt+c to collapse them.

and the word Gizmo is really just a nonsense word used to describe small bits of technology like gadget or widget. In max things like the select and move tool have a "gizmo" that you use to manipulate the object in the viewports.

And to Connect with a line or a face (Edge), two opposite vertex like in the image I have posted now How can I do?

I could be wrong about max 8 not having bridge.

I never thought of using collapse for something like that, that's a a handy thing to know, thanks.

Spanning that distance there will still be a flat spot right? You will still have to cut some new edges and move them into place or something.
