Descent 2 is a game made by a company i want to work for out in California. The pyro is the model of ship you fly.
I'd like to animate a pyro for my demo reel. The video would show the pyro in a dog fight, changing weapons, and dropping shells. I think the ship would have to be reimagined to work.
How would the ship run into missiles and guns to automatically load them? Would there be some sort of vacuum that sucks things to the bottom, where little arms sort them out? Are there tracks along the wings to load different primary weapons? I'd have to show them swapping. Or are the four cannons multi purpose?
I'm also wondering how all this crap fits on board... i'm going to have rescued hostages just tie a rope to the back....
I don't think when they invented powerups they thought about how it would physically work in real life, it's quite a conundrum you pose. You're asking questions that only the deepest and philosophical gamers ask. Just say it uses an advanced invention called the Powerup and Inventory Sorting System, or "PISS" for short. It's all done internally so you wouldn't have to animate anything![Link to www.3dprevis.com]
Haha, nice acronym
Just claim that they use nano molecues to re-align the components of some alien material, to change from weapon to weapon, and its relative ammunition
Then introduce a 7th dimension within the cargo hold which your rescued hostages inhabit

Hmm, Just realised I've still got a copy of Descent 2 at home, if its the same one that we are talking about

Lol... i'll find some corny way of making the powerups work. In fact i was thinking of a robotic arm that pilot controls. As for making things fit, the answer came clear to me last night...... The weapons are smaller! The missiles are like bazoka missiles or smaller.
The four guns on the wings are just barrels that acts like a custom carbines for a pistol. Another words the firing mechanism is switched out at the base of the canon. The barrel and rifling never move.
Lol and as for the hostages.... it would be the funniest thing to see them hanging on on by a rope as you blast threw the mines! lolool
You saying the game is a decent game, or have you misspelt Descent?
I think I mite install it when I get home, just for a trip down memory lane lol

I'm a big Descent 2 fan. So is my little brother. We never liked Descent 3 as much, even though it's still a good game.
I even found a patch/hack that makes descent 2 look graphically like an xbox game with Lighting effects and directx options.
It leaves the original models textures and some of the programming for game play. There are bump map options on some patches that get bumpy based on the original texture. The colored lighting effects and high res options are nice. Also there' so longer a cap on fps. There's a ton of custom options for the ship's handling. I'd like to see them add motion blur.
Dont know if you've played it, but the motion blur in GRID was awesome. Really adds to it.Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
