I was wondering if it was possible to add a texture to only part of a face of a model.

I am creating a model of a printer and have already textured it in a glossy white but when trying to add the logo to one of the faces using a uvw map, it takes over the whole of the face.

Could somebody please shed some light on this.

Thanks

Himesh

You could use the CUT tool to cut some extra detail into the face.

use a blend material. have your glossy white material in one slot and another material with the logo bitmap in another. then make a black and white mask to mix them together. you will need uvs on the object to position the logo correctly. You could make the logo with some space around it in photoshop and an alpha channel then use the same image in the mix slot and set it to use alpha instead of RGB in the bitmap properties.

hi

thanks for both your help, the cut tool seems the easiest but is a pain to use. tyson, i didnt understand a word of your reply lol, im a complete noob at 3ds max.

if i textured the parts i wished to texture first and then added them together using a boolean union, would this work?

thanks

The easiest way i know is, while in edit poly mode (or edit mesh) simply select the mesh you wish to have textured, open the material editor, then apply the material.... Only the selected mesh gets textured. (works only in polygon or element mode, in the modifier stack.)
