yeah as the title says a rainy afternoon astro boy pic. just a bit of fun done in photoshop.

and it's a story that might bore you, but you don't have to listen, because I always knew it was going to be like that.

Dude post this to your portfolio so it shows up in browse art. We try not to encourage finals being posted in the forums.

As I already said on FB "Wow that is awesome!"

ha didn't know that ok will do. but to save face heres some WIP images

1. Line drawing
2. quick quick blocking out of light and dark areas.
3. smoothing things out a bit, still working pretty quick and rough
4. smoothing out more
5. on a different layer i set the blending mode to overlay and add different colours where i want them
6. add another layer and begin working with the colours more. I'm trying to make the picture less dull (one of the drawbacks of starting with a black and white painting). I also added special effects like the speed lines and a bit of glow around the eyes. i probably added highlights in some areas and other random little details.
7. the finished image. I added a bit of blur in an attempt to make a depth of field effect. I also added another layer, filled it with a radial white and orange gradient and messed around with blending modes and opacity until i had what i wanted.

and it's a story that might bore you, but you don't have to listen, because I always knew it was going to be like that.

I see you paint with tonal values first. While I understand the logic behind it, it feels so un painterly to do that.

not an issue to me if it doesn't feel painterly. i'm just not clever enough to figure out colour and tone and values and everything all at once, so i work black and white first and worry about colour later.

very nice I like how you showed step by step shots as well and the warming effect turned out very good.
