hi! Does anybody know how to quickly remove grainy shadows in vray whitout improving the rendering time? I've been using vray for a time now and the only way i can remove the grain is to set the rendering settings pretty high but then also add about an hour to the final render. Does anyone know a fast way to fix this?

Is it for a still or an animation? I know that for a still, if you dont want to up the subdiv, on the shadows, add a Render Element of Vrayshadows, and that will give you an alpha map for photoshop so you can blur them out later in post rendering.

when you render, the render element (vrayshadow) comes out as a post rendering image that saves in the same folder as your main image. When you take that image into photoshop, make sure you open your vrayshadow file along with it and add it to your image as a diff layer, from there you can select with the wand and manipulate your shadows separately.

If you wanna up the subdivision quality of your shadows and your image overall.. If you are using vray, I recomend cranking your settings in the light, if you are using a standard light, up the shadow samples. Also, you can go to settings in you render scene menu, and click on light settings, there up the Diffuse subdivs and that should give you better results as well.

range depends on the size of the file and the objects that are in the scene, plus textures mat, and light subdiv and render settings. I render in pretty high quality, 5000 pix and up with maaaad settings... they usualy take about 1-2 days with an 8 core prossesing node. If I need it for a few hours, cuz sometimes I do.. I dont take away from the quality, I just strip render my scene in dif. computers, creating the light catch and the Irradiance map in one computer, and then when its done calculating, I split the image and distribute to all of my avalable computers and nodes.

well.. for the most part yeah, but I've had the chance to render scenes that only take a few hours.. really it all depends on the settings/mats/and objects that you have in the scene.
