I've been using 3DS Max for a while now, and I've had no problems at all until now. I've noticed that I can no longer right click in the viewports at all anymore. This is obviously a huge problem, because I can no longer convert anything into an editable mesh or editable poly. I looked in the options and preferences, and saw no way to fix this. Can someone please help me? I'd like to resume my 3D modeling, so help ASAP would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Does your right click work in other programs?

Yes, in everything (including 3DS Max), just not in the viewports. what.gif

The only thing I can think of is that some how "right click menu over selected only" got checked in Preferences>viewports> mouse control

Unfortunately that's not it. I saw that option and it was unchecked, so I tried checking it, and that didn't fix it, so I just unchecked it again. Thanks anyways though.

I'll keep looking, I assume you tried restarting max?

Yes, I've also tried starting a new project, looking through all the menus and preferences I could find, and searching online. My last resort was to seek help from the experts--much like yourself. I appreciate your time and effort to help me.

you can you just delete the 3dsmax.ini file and reset all your settings. It might solve it but you will have to reload all the keyboard shortcuts etc..

I can't even find the 3dsmax.ini file. Is that exactly what it's called?

yeah, it should be in the 3dsmax root directory.

*edit. just noticed. it used to be in the root dir back in max 8, but now it is here:

I deleted this file, but still nothing... Would it help to mention that ctrl+right click and alt+right click work?

Well I'm stumped. Reinstalled max, reset configuration file, loaded default ui.
Tried another mouse, another USB port. Tried loading some new mouse drivers.
Other than that I have no clue.

I have looked around and figured there is a button on your keyboard that does the same as right mouse button. So, first select your object in the viewport with your LEFT mousebutton, and press the button left of his right thumb.

between the windows button left, and the right controll smile.gif Give it a try.

Hope it works.

Unfortunately, that also doesn't work. I'm beginning to wonder if there's any way to fix this at all.

Still not fixed? Is it a virus or something? Seems really weird.
